My name is Brendan Hutchins, a game developer that has experience in multiple game formats. These are mostly virtual reality projects and include applications used in research studies, training simulations, and recreation.
I was a unity developer at Brain Spice Labs (formerly Part Time Evil) for three years from 2021 to 2024, later becoming the game design department head of GG Life for the remainder of the year. This was to create a curriculum for students aged 8-17 to follow along that utilized Fortnite Creative and foundations of game design principles from a variety of sources. I then moved to the Bay Area (Oakland, to be specific), where I have taken jobs working as a data collection moderator (contractor) at Apple for a few months and now a contract unity developer for an unannounced VR project.
In addition to having work experience, I am formally educated in game design, having attended Texas A&M University’s Visualization program for my bachelors and University of Southern California’s USC Games program for my masters. I had the privilege of learning directly applicable skills in project management, creative problem solving, and ideation from Tracy Fullerton, Richard Lemarchand, and Ed Zobrist at USC. I compare my experience at the viz program of them supplying the knowledge of the game design industry, and USC forming the connections between these points of knowledge.
In my spare time, I am typically playing games (of course), cooking (mostly Mediterranean cuisine), going on walks, playing with the three house cats, and building jigsaw puzzles.
