Healing Beat

This is a virtual reality project primarily made over the course of a semester, and later picked up another semester for polishing. The premise is that you are a scientist on an alien planet that is shrunken down and sent into a sick plant to bring it in sync with the beat and fight the infection. It was made between two people, with me being the game designer and programmer and my partner creating the sound effect. I was involved in gameplay design and programming for this project and implementing events triggered from Koreographer tracks to the rest of the game to respond to.

The main mechanics are point-and-shoot in rhythm at the incoming seeds and using the healing rod to drum on the beat on the heart strings connecting the hearts together. I also choreographed the enemy flowers on when to pop up, shoot, and retreat, and all of the game flow by implementing narration and changing audio tracks. I also implemented an internal scoring system based on how close to the beat you were while blasting the enemy’s seeds. I plan on making a video explaining the whole process sometime soon, but everything is dependent on the music, from the projectile seed spawning to when the player is able to fire the blaster.
